First Nations

First Nations law involves the spectrum of legal issues that arise for First Nations communities. These include Aboriginal and Treaty rights, business development, land claim negotiations, tax planning, the establishment of trusts, internal governance and employment, accommodation and consultation.

The lawyers at Duncan Craig LLP have experience assisting First Nations communities to manage their relationships with the various levels of government and the business community. Our lawyers have facilitated business development agreements, provided legal and policy advice during negotiations with government bodies and assisted with the reorganization of the governance structure of First Nations communities. We maintain strong relationships with numerous Aboriginal communities and continue to work on their behalf in order to meet their needs.

Our close relationship with our First Nations' clients is built on a strong respect for their history, their culture, their customs and the unique circumstances and needs of each community. We attempt to resolve each situation with a focus on collaborative partnerships and, where needed, a reliance on alternative dispute mechanisms such as mediation or arbitration to reach consensus.
