Soloman was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1969 and is a partner with the Firm. His practice is mainly Commercial/Corporate and he has an extensive background in Law Practice Management. He graduated as a Petroleum Engineer from the Colorado School of Mines and obtained a J.D. at the University of Colorado in 1968.
He has held numerous positions in both the Canadian Bar and American Bar Associations and has lectured extensively to lawyers in the Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary, Poland and the Ukraine on behalf of the Canadian government.
He is past President of the Edmonton Club, past Board member of the Phoenix Theatre, past President of the Board of Trustees of the Beth Shalom Synagogue, and chaired the Leadership Gifts Fundraising Campaign for Grant MacEwan College. He served on the Board of Directors of the Capital Health Authority and chaired a number of its committees as well as sitting on the Audit and Finance Committee. He is a past Trustee of the University Hospitals Foundation and past member of the Caritas Health Group. He has chaired the University of Alberta’s Medical School Visiting Committee for four years and the Faculty of Arts Visiting Committee for two years, sat on the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, HRIF Capital Campaign and the Capital Care Foundation Mewburn Centre Capital Committee, as well as having chaired the Devonian Botanic Gardens Capital Campaign.
He is past Chair of the Telus World of Science (formerly Edmonton Space and Science Centre (Odyssium) and currently chairs its Council of Governors and is past President of the Citadel Theatre and currently sits on its Board of Governors as Secretary.
He initiated and chairs the Duncan & Craig Laurel Awards for recognition of innovation and creativity by non-profit organizations and he chairs the John V. Decore Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law. He currently chairs the River Valley Alliance developing one of the largest Municipal parks in the world of 18,000 acres, 88 kms in length, chairs the Northern Alberta Chapter of the Manning Innovation Awards, and sits on the Discipline Board of the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of Edmonton Salutes, Secretary of the Board of Governors of the Corps of Commissionaires. In 2005 he was appointed to the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and currently sits on the University Senate as well. He chairs the St. John Canada Foundation and sits on the Priory Council of the Priory of Canada of the most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem and chairs the Board of the Alberta Priory of St. John Ambulance. He is President of the Inuit Art Enthusiasts and chairs the Multi-Faith Society for Harmony.
Amongst other awards, he is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, inducted into the Order of St. John as Commander, received the Alberta Centennial Medal and appointed Queen’s Counsel. In 2007, he was appointed Honourary Lieutenant-Colonel of 1 Military Police Unit, and in 2008 named by Alberta Venture Magazine as one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people. For his past works on behalf of the Jewish Community and the Greater Edmonton Community at Large, he was acknowledged in 2009 by the Beth Shalom Synagogue as its Honouree of the year. He also received the Lieutenant Governor’s Corporate Community Leader Award in 2009 and was inducted into the City of Edmonton Community Service Hall of Fame. As chair of the River Valley Alliance, he accepted the Community Group Emerald Award in 2009.
